Spectacular season finale for GRT at the Hockenheimring. On the eighth and final race weekend of the DTM, the Lamborghini Squadra Corse supported team from Austria once again showcased its very best in front of 95,000 spectators. In Sunday’s race, Luca Engstler celebrated his second win of the season in impressive style driving the MOUNTAIN WOLF supported Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 from Lamborghini Team LIQUI MOLY by GRT. The Lamborghini Young Driver was joined on the podium by former GRT driver Mirko Bortolotti. The Lamborghini Factory Driver, who made his debut in the DTM with Grasser Racing in 2022, was crowned champion of the high-calibre GT3 series with second place in the finale.

Luca Engstler had already delivered in Saturday’s qualifying session with mixed conditions on a drying track, taking fourth place on the grid. In the race, dry conditions prevailed for the first time on the weekend. The set-up that worked well on a damp track did not match with the change in weather, meaning that he and Franck Perera were unable to utilise the pace of the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 over the race distance. After a difficult Saturday, the GRT crew turned the tide on the final day. In qualifying, Luca Engstler and Franck Perera secured a promising starting position with fourth and sixth on the grid.

In the first stint, Luca Engstler held his own in the #19 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 in the chasing pack until he took the lead during the pit stop window, having the right strategy. The undercut with the tyre change on lap 15 proved to be spot on, allowing him to take the lead from Mirko Bortolotti four laps later after the Italian’s pit stop. He subsequently took control of the race at the front. He set the fastest lap and celebrated his second DTM victory after 37 laps, half a second ahead of Mirko Bortolotti. In the golden #63 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 from Lamborghini Team TGI by GRT, Franck Perera was not rewarded for his good qualifying. He was pushed off on the opening lap and dropped back to last place, meaning that no more than 15th was possible for him.

GRT’s third season in the DTM ended on a high with the success at Hockenheim. After Gottfried Grasser’s squad had clinched a victory last year, they celebrated their most successful season to date in the prestigious championship thanks to Luca Engstler’s two triumphs. The 24-year-old also celebrated the most victories of any Lamborghini driver who competed in the DTM this year. At the Norisring, the outfit also achieved a double podium with Franck Perera and Luca Engstler in second and third place after a strategic masterclass. With these strong results, GRT made a decisive contribution to Lamborghini Squadra Corse finishing second in the manufacturers‘ standings, just ten points behind the champions.

Luca Engstler:
„The victory was a mega finish that rounded off a great season for me. I felt at home at GRT from the very first moment and we worked really well together throughout the year, which we have demonstrated once again with this first place. There were also difficult days, but the mutual support and trust were always there, and that made these successes possible. Of course, we will analyse our weak days carefully over the winter in order to learn from them and perform even more consistently next season. Many thanks to the entire GRT family for this great year.“

Franck Perera:
„It meant a lot to me that GRT got me on board as a replacement for Christian and I really appreciated being back in the DTM. We got off to a very good start at the Norisring with the podium, but after that it was difficult for us. In the GT World Challenge, we were always at the front together this year, but in the DTM we didn’t manage to maintain this consistency. The pace was often there, especially in qualifying we had some good performances. However, the results were few and far between, which I think is a bit of a shame. Nevertheless, the season is not over for us yet and we will give our all to win the Endurance Cup at the GT World Challenge finale in Jeddah.“

Gottfried Grasser, Team Principal of GRT: „After the first race, we found a few things that played into our hands on Sunday. Winning the final with Luca was a fantastic end to the season for us. The incident on the opening lap was a shame for Franck, because with his pace he could also have finished very far up the field. When we look back on our season in the DTM, Luca was definitely the highlight. He showed strong performances right from the start and developed excellently. Of course, there are always ups and downs in a DTM season, but he also mastered the difficult moments and showed that he can have a great future in the series. With the sister car, it was of course difficult to always be optimally prepared with the many driver changes due to Christian Engelhart’s injury. Franck hardly had any test days and that obviously has an effect in a series with such a high level. Nevertheless, it was a good season for us overall. A big compliment to our drivers and the entire crew for their good work over the past few months. Finally, I would of course like to congratulate Mirko on his well-deserved DTM title. We have shared a long journey together and a close friendship, and it fills us with pride to see him as champion. Congratulations to Mirko and our Lamborghini family on this fantastic success.“

ADAC GT Masters
The race weekend at the Hockenheimring also marked the finale of the ADAC GT Masters with the sixth stop on the calendar. In the ADAC’s renowned GT3 series, the year came to a conciliatory end for GRT with Benjamin Hites and Tim Zimmermann finishing fifth in Sunday’s race. The duo which competed in the SILVER CUP had to cope with a number of setbacks during the season, but also recorded a podium in Zandvoort as well as pole position and a fastest race lap at the Nürburgring. Benjamin Hites finished in the points in each of the twelve races in the #63 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 and ended the season in sixth place. Tim Zimmermann, who had to miss the weekend at the Red Bull Ring due to injury, finished ninth.

In the #19 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 supported by TGI, Gerhard Tweraser impressed in Saturday qualifying with first place in the PRO-AM classification, making the Austrian the best-placed Lamborghini driver in sixth place on the grid. In the race, he and Taylor Hagler finished fourth in class after two hard-fought stints. The duo competed together on two race weekends last season and celebrated a double podium success in the PRO-AM classification at Spa-Francorchamps with second and third place. Gerhard Tweraser contested a total of three weekends for GRT, while Taylor Hagler also took part in three events.

Tim Zimmermann:
„The race on Sunday went well for us, we were able to keep up with the pace of the front runners, which is a success given the strong competition. We had actually hoped to be able to clinch victories this season and be a little closer to the front. However, the other manufacturers were sometimes in a league of their own due to the different classifications of the cars. Nevertheless, we were the best Lamborghini in the field. I had a pole and we were on a par with the front-runners at times. All in all, I think we can be satisfied.“

Gerhard Tweraser:
„I was very pleased to drive for GRT again at the finale. The three weekends with the team were great and working with Taylor was also a lot of fun. We always had a competitive car, which we were often able to utilise. Hockenheim was a positive weekend despite the retirement in the second race. We had the pace for the top five and made the most of our opportunities. I would like to thank Gottfried and his team for their trust and hope to be able to work with GRT again in 2025.“

Gottfried Grasser, Team Principal of GRT:
„In the ADAC GT Masters, our drivers gave their all once again in the finale and fought well. Fifth place was a positive finish for Benja and Tim and Gerhard and Taylor also performed well once again. As far as the season is concerned, we had obviously hoped for much more. We struggled due to different circumstances and I think that the other manufacturers often had an easier time with the balance of performance than we did. We wanted to fight for the title and weren’t quite able to realise what we had planned. Nevertheless, we had some nice individual successes with both cars, especially with the class podiums for Taylor.“
